Introduction

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is a beautiful car by itself, but with some small changes, it can be even more stunning. We’ve put together a list of our favorite exterior mods for this beautiful Italian saloon.

If you’re looking to make a statement with your Giulia, you’ve come to the right place.

Perhaps you are looking for some small subtle mods that you can do yourself. Or maybe you’re wanting to make your base spec Giulia look more like the top end Giulia Quadrifoglio from the outside.

Regardless of your budget or goals, we will cover all the best mods you need to turn the Giulia into a truly bespoke head-turner.

Wheel Upgrades

When it comes to upgrading the wheels on your Giulia, you have a variety of OEM options as well as aftermarket options to choose from. With various Alfa Romeo wheels being available, it may be a case of opting for a different OEM set or upsizing to a larger diameter wheel for a sportier appearance.

The OEM wheel’s you may have on your Giulia will depend on the year and spec. There are various Alfa Romeo wheel’s available between 16 inches and 19 inches in diameter. Larger wheels will give your Giulia a more aggressive and sporty appearance while smaller diameter wheels can provide additional comfort and better fuel economy. It’s worth noting that many 16 inch wheels won’t fit at all in certain trim’s of the Giulia.

If you want to keep the wheels as Alfa Romeo options and go large, you could also go for the 20 inch Stelvio wheels which some owners add. Don’t expect a smooth ride though!

Aftermarket wheels are an option for your Giulia if you want to opt for something bold and different.

You will need to make sure that the aftermarket wheels you are looking for are compatible with your Giulia and that you wont have any clearance issues.

The PCD is 5 x 110 and the bore size is 65.1mm. This same pattern and bore size is used by many Saab cars so you may be able to find compatible options by having a look through aftermarket wheels for those cars.

You can also get a list of compatible wheels on sites like Wheelbase where you can search directly for wheels that are compatible with your year and spec of Giulia.

There are various aftermarket options for you. Consider the color and styling of your Giulia before making a purchase. Are you looknig for something to contrast the body of your car? Or are you wanting something with thin spokes to show off your shiny red brake calipers? There are lots of things to consider, so take a look around owners groups on Facebook and on forums to get some inspiration.

Painted Brake Calipers

Painting your brake calipers can be a fun way to add some style to your car on a budget.

If you’re looking to make your Giulia look more sporty or aggressive, painting your calipers is one of the easiest ways to do it. You can paint them in any color you want, so you’ll be able to find something that fits your style perfectly!

Once you’re set on painting the calipers,  it’s time to start thinking about what color you want them. Do you want something subtle? Something bold? A color that matches the body of your car?

Some of the more popular choices are red and yellow, which can add some night bright coloring to the area of your wheels.

To ensure a long-lasting and durable finish, opt for high-quality caliper paint that can withstand high temperatures and harsh conditions. Look for a paint specifically designed for brake calipers, as these formulas will provide the best protection and finish.

If painting them yourself, ensure that you spend a lot of time prepping the calipers for painting. Before applying any paint, thoroughly clean the brake calipers using a wire brush and brake cleaner. This step is crucial, as it removes dirt, grime, and rust that could compromise the paint’s adhesion.

When painting, try to avoid thick coats and instead opt for thin ones, waiting for each layer to dry before applying the next. This will result in a smoother and cleaner finish.

Grill Upgrades

The grill is one of the most prominent features at the front of the Giulia and is the central focal point of where the sharp lines of the front of the car all lead to.

There are a couple of cosmetic mods you can do to the grill that add a touch of class to the front of your car.

The standard grills that come as standard on the Giulia feature a mesh pattern in black, with the density of the grill pattern being slightly different depending on what model you have.

A neat upgrade is a carbon fibre surrounding to your grill. This works very well if you have other carbon fibre elements on the exterior such as carbon fibre mirror caps. This doesn’t change the mesh itself but rather the outer edge. You could also get this done in red or a different color to compliment the colors of your car and create some contrast.

Removal of the front bumper is required to install a new grill, so take your time and be careful to ensure you don’t break any of the fixings if fitting the mod yourself.

Front Splitter

A front splitter is a piece of aerodynamic bodywork that attaches to the front of your car. It’s designed to direct air flow over and under your vehicle, reducing drag and increasing downforce. The result? Increased handling performance!

Of course, these benefits won’t be that noticeable unless driving hard and combined with other aero mods. If you are looking at a front splitter, chances are you are after the visual cosmetic benefits a front splitter brings to the front of your Giulia.

One of the most significant visual benefits of adding a front splitter to your Giulia is the increased sense of aggressiveness it conveys. The splitter’s sharp angles and protruding edges lend a more assertive, race-inspired appearance to the car’s front end, making it an even more striking sight on the road.

By visually lowering the front end of your Giulia, a front splitter creates the illusion of a more aggressive stance on the road. This effect can make your car appear more planted and dynamic, further emphasizing its performance-oriented nature.

Maxton Design offer front splitters for the Giulia for both the Sport and Veloce models.

These splitters are made from ABS plastic which is a durable material when compared to fibreglass which many generic universal splitters are made from.

Rear Diffuser

Fitting an aftermarket rear diffuser makes the rear of your car looks great as well as improving your car’s aerodynamics.

Aerodynamics refers to the way air flows around your vehicle. When you have a sporty aftermarket rear diffuser installed on your Giulia, it helps improve airflow around the back end of your car – reducing the drag and increasing downforce for extra grip.

The practical performance benefits are minimal with the diffuser on its own, but can definitely help if you have other aero and handling mods on the car.

While it can provide marginal performance benefits, most people opt for a sporty rear diffuser for the looks. They can really make the back end of your Giulia more aggressive with the finned lines and make it look more sporty than it already is. If you want to go a step further you could go for a carbon fibre styled rear diffuser. This is a bold choice that really enhances the elegant and sporty nature of the car.

Rear Trunk & Roof Spoiler

An aftermarket spoiler can completely transform the look of  the rear of your Giulia, giving it a sportier and more aggressive appearance. Spoilers come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and designs, so you can choose one that best suits your style and the overall look you are going for.

For example: If you have a red Alfa Romeo Giulia, a black or carbon-fiber spoiler would provide a great contrast and make it stand out nicely.

An aftermarket spoiler can also provide functional benefits by improving the aerodynamics of your Giulia. By redirecting the airflow, a spoiler can increase downforce, which can improve stability at high speeds and in corners. This can result in better handling and increased traction, which can ultimately improve the overall performance of your car.

There are aftermarket options for both a rear trunk spoiler and a rear roof spoiler. Many of the options are quite subtle which suit the lines and style of the Guilia nicely. For a subtle option, check out the product at the bottom of this section by UKCarbon.

If you are wanting something that really pops and is a bit bold, then you could add on a GTAm styled spoiler. This comes from TMC Motorsport in a carbon fibre finish and adds a serious presence to the back of your Giulia. This is the spoiler you can see in the image above. You can take a look at it on their website here.

Sideskirts

Sideskirts are a fantastic and subtle mod that can really enhance the lines and side profile of your Giulia.

Maxton Design sell custom made sideskirts for the Giulia that fit nicely and don’t require any cutting or trimming like many of the universal sideskirt kits do.

These sideskirts come in the option of black, textured or even carbon fibre which is a classy touch. Made with ABS plastic, it is a lot more durable than many of the cheaper sideskirts sets which are made with carbon-fibre. As such, they are better resistant to impacts as well as moisture.

The sideskirts visually help lower the profile of the car, which looks even better if you are running a lowered suspension which we’ll touch on shortly. This makes the stance of your car more aggressive and adds to it’s sporty nature.

Wing Mirror Covers/Caps

Wing mirror caps are a nice simple mod you can do that can really make a fantastic visual impact on your car.

The most common option to go for is a carbon fibre cover that overlays your original wing mirrors. If you have some other black styling elements on the exterior like sideskirts or a front splitter, then carbon fibre covers can be a very nice way of adding some more dark accents to the car.

If you don’t want to add wing mirror covers, then there is also the option of adding an Italian styled Alfa Romeo sticker to the outside of the wing mirrors. This is a cheap nice little mod that pays homage to the Giulia’s Italian heritage. You can check them out here on eBay.

Of course you could also combine the best of both worlds and have the stickers overlay the carbon fibre covers. Now that is a unique and classy wing mirror set up that will set your Giulia apart!

You can purchase wing mirror caps from various retailers online. AlfaRomeoShop do a fantastic set of carbon fibre mirror caps that can be seen in the photo for this section. You can check them out here.

Coilovers

If you’re looking to make your Giulia look more aggressive, one of the best things you can do is to lower it. Lowering your car will give it a sporty, confident look as well as provide performance benefits.

For Alfa Romeo Giulia owners seeking to improve their vehicle’s performance and handling, coilover suspension systems have become a popular aftermarket modification. These systems replace the stock suspension components with adjustable coilover units, which combine the shock absorber and coil spring into a single unit.

Coilovers allow for better feedback and increased control during cornering, accelerating, and braking. This translates to a more engaging and responsive driving experience, particularly when tackling twisty roads or pushing your Giulia to its limits on a racetrack.

Coilovers provide a fantastic level of adjustability compared to stock suspension systems. With the ability to fine-tune your Giulia’s ride height and suspension stiffness, you can create the perfect setup for your driving preferences and conditions. This versatility allows you to lower your vehicle for a more aggressive stance compared to lowering springs.

Beyond performance enhancements, coilovers can also contribute to a more aggressive and sporty appearance for your Giulia. By lowering the ride height and reducing the gap between the tires and wheel arches, your vehicle will take on a more streamlined and purposeful look. This visual transformation can set your Giulia apart from its stock counterparts and reflect your commitment to both style and performance.

There are different options out there from reputable manufacturers. Check out the coilover sets by BC Racing and KW who make high quality sets specifically for the Giulia.

Conclusion

Exterior modifications can be a great way to customize your Giulia and make it truly unique. With the right combination of parts, you can create a stunning aesthetic that perfectly reflects your personal style and sporty nature of the car.

From body kit elements and wheels, there are a variety of options to choose from!

While exciting, it’s important to approach exterior modifications with a balance of enthusiasm and caution. Research each potential upgrade thoroughly, ensuring its compatibility with your model. Also consider the impact each modification may have on your Giulia’s resale value and how easily reversible it may be if you wish to return the car to standard when (or if) it comes time to sell.

Happy modding!
